Press Release Summary = The annual environment competition entitled, \"Limerick Looking Good\", recognises the work done by Limerick people who improve the city by tackling litter, enhancing their premises or using floral displays.
Press Release Body = Limerick people from all walks of life are coming into their own in enhancing their localities. And their efforts were acknowledged at a ceremony in the City Gallery of Art when the recipients of Limerick Looking Good Awards were announced.
Launched in June 2004, Limerick Looking Good is an annual competition that aims to encourage and recognize efforts to tackle litter, clean up residential areas, use floral displays and window boxes and generally improve and enhance areas of the Limerick city.
The competition is open to everyone; business and community groups, residents associations and individuals and it links into the Department of the Environment\'s National City Neighborhoods Competition.
It is similar to the Tidy Towns competition and is limited to areas within the current city boundaries of Limerick, Cork, Dublin, Galway and Waterford.
Limerick was a winner in 2003, 2004 and again in 2005 with the Bishop\'s Palace receiving the top award.
The highest achievers in the City Street and Residential Area categories and under Special Category headings of Limerick Looking Good will go forward to represent the city in the National City Neighborhoods competition for 2006.
The main categories in the \"Limerick looking Good competition\" were: · 1) Best Residential Area · 2) Best City Street · 3) Best Kept Residential Front Garden
There was also a special category nomination under the following headings: · a) Best Shopfront · b) Best Landscaped Open Space · c) Best Retail Building/Supermarket/Restaurant/Public House · d) Best Old Building · e) Best Modern Building · f) Best Civic Building · g) Best Local Park · h) Most Attractive Pedestrianised Area
Presenting awards to the winners on Monday, Mayor Diarmuid Scully thanked Shannon Developmen for their support in getting the message out that Limerick is one of the most attractive cities in Ireland.
This year, William Street was awarded the Best City Street in Limerick. Eleanor O`Brien from J.H. Irwin Jewellers accepted the award on behalf of the business people on William Street.
Eve`s Fashion Store on Roches Street won in the Best Shop Front category.
